Trout is one of the most popular game fish in the world and can be found in a variety of freshwater environments. From small streams and creeks to large lakes and rivers, these fish offer a unique and rewarding fishing experience for anglers of all skill levels.

Choosing the right trout species for your fishing trip is an essential part of the planning process. RAINBOW

Known for their vibrant colors, these fish have a distinct pink stripe that runs along their sides, accompanied by hues of green, blue, and purple. Rainbow Trout can grow from 12 to 30 inches in length and weigh 1 to 20 pounds, making them a sought-after catch for anglers.   They are a popular fish for recreational fishing, as well as aquaculture, due to their hardy nature and fast growth rate. Rainbow Trout are also a popular choice for cooking and can be prepared in a variety of ways, including grilling, smoking, and pan-frying. 

Brook Trout

BROOK

The brook trout is a beautifully colored fish with yellow spots over an olive-green back. The spots along the trout’s back are stretched and almost wormlike in shape. Along its sides, the brook trout’s color transitions from olive to orange or red, with scattered red spots bordered by pale blue.  Their pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins are pale to bright orange with a white leading edge followed by black stripes. Brook Trout typically grow to a maximum length of 12-15 inches, but can occasionally reach up to 20 inches in length. They are primarily found in cool, clear streams and lakes with high oxygen levels.  Brook Trout are a popular species for anglers due to their aggressive behavior and willingness to strike at a variety of lures and baits. They are also a favorite of fly fishers, as they can be caught using dry flies and nymphs.

BROWN

Brown Trout are known for their unique coloration. Browning in overall tone, the back and upper sides are dark brown to grey-brown with yellow-brown to silver lower sides. They have black and red spots. They are typically found in clear, cold waters with rocky bottoms, and are known to be elusive, making them a challenge for anglers.    Brown Trout can grow to impressive sizes, growing from 2 to 16 pounds and 14 to 28 inches, and are known for their fighting ability and acrobatic leaps.

GOLDEN RAINBOW

Golden Rainbow Trout is a unique and rare variant of the common Rainbow Trout. This species is characterized by its bright golden coloration, which is the result of a genetic mutation that affects the pigmentation of its skin. Golden Rainbow Trout are not a separate species, but rather a color variation of Rainbow Trout. They can be found in a variety of freshwater environments, including rivers, streams, and lakes. Golden Rainbow Trout can grow to a moderate size, with most individuals reaching between 12-16 inches in length and weighing around 2-10 pounds.

 

Golden Rainbow Trout are prized by anglers for their striking appearance and fighting ability, making them a popular target for sport fishing. Due to their rarity and beauty, catching a Golden Rainbow Trout is considered a special achievement for many anglers.

CUT-BOW

Cut-Bow Trout is a hybrid species that results from the crossbreeding of two different trout species, the Rainbow Trout and the Cutthroat Trout. Cut-Bow Trout exhibit physical characteristics of both parent species, with the distinctive red slash under the jaw of the Cutthroat Trout and the rainbow-like coloration of the Rainbow Trout. Cut-Bow Trout can grow to be quite large, with some specimens reaching up to 30 inches in length and weighing over 10 pounds. However, the average size for Cut-Bow Trout is typically between 14-18 inches in length and weighing around 1-3 pounds.

 

Cut-Bow Trout are highly sought after by anglers due to their unique appearance and fighting ability. Due to their hybrid nature, Cut-Bow Trout can exhibit a wide range of physical traits and characteristics, making each catch a unique experience for anglers.

TIGER

Tiger Trout is a unique trout species that is a cross between a Brown Trout and a Brook Trout. This sterile hybrid is known for its distinct appearance, with dark vermiculation on their body and bright orange markings on its fins. Generally, they grow to be between 16 to 28+ inches in length and weigh between 3 and 16 pounds. 

 

They are highly sought after by anglers due to their aggressive nature and fighting ability, as well as their rarity in the wild. This makes each catch a special and unique experience for anglers lucky enough to reel in this stunning and elusive species.
